August, 2024 What a perfect place for our family! There were 12 of us, three generations ranging in age from 8 to 80’s. There was something for everyone. The house is as beautiful and comfortable as it looks in the pictures. The location right on the water makes it unique. We loved the ability to sit outside in chairs or the hot tub, smell the ocean air, watch the waves, the birds and the occasional harbor seal or otter in the surf. Wonderful! Tide pooling was a hit, especially with the kids. Walking the ocean side trail right from the house takes you to Lovers Point beach and recreation area in one direction, and to the expansive Asilomar Beach in the other. Four of our group had a great time riding electric bikes, available to rent just a short distance from the house. Two were equipped to carry kids on a back seat. Fun! A day at Pt Lobos State Park included snorkeling, walking the trails and enjoying the gorgeous coastal views. We made full use of the well supplied kitchen and cooked dinners in every night except the last. When we weren’t outside, the ping pong table and pinball machine kept the entertainment going. Kirstie and Hannah are terrific hosts, readily available to respond to any questions or concerns. The biggest treat of course, was all being together. Rocky Shores made it truly special. Patty April, 2024 Our family of 10 (ages 1-72) spent a week in this ocean-front home and could not have been happier. Our four young girls loved the beach and the rocks, which they climbed often. They put to good use the assortment of toys in the garage and bedrooms. The girls treated the parking area as a playground. And they set up their water colors outside and painted the magnificent flowers. From the house, or down on the rocky beach, the children watched sea otters ride the waves while floating on their backs, they picked up hermit crabs from the tidal pools, and watched dozens of sea gulls plunge into the water for food. They also delighted in the deer that frequented the path near our house. The adults were in awe of the beauty of the site, both the landscaping around the house and the rugged coast. We spent most of our time outdoors, walking the path that crosses the property or hiking the trails at Point Lobos State Reserve or in the Carmel Valley. And of course we all spent a few hours in the Monterey Aquarium, which is quite close. The house is spacious and comfortable. It is well furnished and relatively kid-proof—and it has a crib, pack ’n play, and high chair. We made good use of the stocked kitchen, eating most of our meals at the house. When we were tired of cooking, we explored the restaurants in Carmel, and especially liked Chez Noir. Carmel was also the preferred destination for picking up coffees and pastries each morning. If you don’t want to go out, the house is stocked with tea and coffee. We gather our bi-coastal family together every spring in a rental house, and this may well have been our favorite. Kirstie and Hannah were perfect hosts during our stay. Alan June, 2023 We had very high expectations for this home from viewing the website and accompanying reviews. Amazingly, it exceeded these expectations. I don't think there's any better view of the remarkable Pacific Coast and the house is built in a way to maximize its visibility. The place is very spacious, well-equipped and well-maintained. We were a very diverse group, with 12 members who ranged in age from 3 to 74 years old and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time here. We definitely hope to come back in the future! Susan April, 2023 This view is simply beyond compare. We are 6 women who adored this rental. The location is spectacular, close to Pebble Beach, Big Sur State Park, Point Lobos, Monterey and Carmel by The Sea. If you are a walker, you will love this location. If you intend to begin walking, this is the place to start.. The Hot tub was cleaned daily, the beds were cozy and the presentation of towels and soap was lovely. The kitchen is very well stocked and we were never at a loss for any cookware, obscure kitchen utensil or condiment, truly appreciated. The gorgeous stone fireplace was sheer perfection on our one drizzly evening along with the surround sound Sonos music system, easy to download pre trip. My communication with Kirstie and Hannah was flawless, we felt welcomed long before we stepped through the gate. This view.....I cannot imagine a more stunning view. There was wildlife in our yard, walking right in front of us as we sat in the Adirondack chairs, views of Pebble Beach, crashing waves to sleep by and moments of sheer peace looking out at the sea. We could not have asked for anything more, we absolutely loved everything about our Pacific Grove respite. We fully intend to re-book. Vicki B. July 2022 We have stayed twice at Rocky Shores with our multigenerational family of 12 (7 to 75 years old). Love the true “home” atmosphere that allows for “eating in“ home cooked dinners. Kids enjoy being so close to the water, pin ball machine, videos, fort in garage. Young adults love the jacuzzi at night. So beautiful for the elders to enjoy morning coffee while watching waves crashing or fog rolling in… coming back for a third year in 2023. Thanks to Kirstie, our host! Lori S. January 2021 Magical, peaceful, splendid, rare and comfortable Five stars! Our group immediately fell in love with this spectacular property and are seeking to plan another stay. The moment we came down the drive we quickly realized it was a rare find as it was only one of two homes on the entire visible beachfront. Upon arrival we let ourselves into the property through the Zen-style courtyard and were soon thereafter greeted by our host for a tour. Our mouths dropped open once we entered the house and experienced the vast breathtaking ocean views. The house simply had a great “feel” and surpassed our expectations. Our group of eight adults and one small dog quickly made ourselves at home for our three-night beach get-away. Once we selected our individual rooms, we gathered into the cozy kitchen and popped open the complimentary bottle of champagne (nice added touch). The weather was sunny and warm so we opened the French doors and enjoyed the Adirondack chairs and watched the ocean view until the sun set over the pacific. Our group also enjoyed the unique artwork, variety of games, Sonos sound system, cozy sitting spaces, huge couches, brilliant TV room, the private hot tub, the well-stocked kitchen, the comfortable bedding and super clean bathrooms. The location is perfect. The beach access is outstanding. The host was very attentive to any questions or needs. Thank you for sharing your unique home with our group of eight. Loren H. September 2019 My golf group, 8 of us, was eagerly looking forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary at the Monterrey Peninsula where it all started so long ago. To make it special we spent significant time researching what might be the ideal place with ocean views that could adequately house a large group. Rocky Shores could not have been a more perfect choice. It has to be one of the best locations right on the shoreline. The views, ambience and substantial space to house all of us was not only fantastic but exceeded all of our expectations. It has a personal charm that only a few such places could possibly achieve over the history of this gorgeous peninsula. We always prefer making our own meals in-house rather than going to restaurants. The kitchen had absolutely everything one could possibly need to achieve that goal including all condiments. After all, you want to spend as much of your time as possible here soaking in the views and outside atmosphere rather than dine out. Lastly, I can’t say enough about Kirstie, owner and host. She gave us a personal orientation to everything and was always available should we need anything. It contributed tremendously to all of us feeling so at home. Cristina Ward June 2019 Our family had a wonderful week at Rocky Shores! We were a group of three generations and everyone had a great time. Words can’t describe the breathtaking views, nor can pictures! You just have to experience it first hand!!! We saw all sorts of wildlife, explored nearby Monterey, Carmel and the Point Pinos Lighthouse. However, think we all would agree that our favorite memories were family time in the grand living room while watching the sea in front of us and the pin ball machine challenges. We appreciated Kirstie’s attention to detail and her quick responses to any questions we had. We hope we can return in the future for another family gathering. Karen Andrews July 2018 Yes, it's another five-star review...and there must be a reason for the consistency of the reviews for this remarkable property! As everyone has referenced, the setting is spectacular: one of the most beautiful locales on the west coast. And it can be yours for days or weeks! We loved the scenery, the wildlife (including breaching whales, otters, seals and deer as well as all the birds), the sound of the waves, the lovely sunsets, all of it. We were a family group of three-generations, and the home worked well for all of us. It is large enough for gathering together or private moments. I, "Gammy," could sit and watch the world go by when I needed to while the children were entertained by the pinball machine, the "fort"/playhouse in the garage, the costumes and games, and the in-between generation hiked the trail, right in front of the house, to Pebble Beach. The house was comfortable and homey. It was also extraordinarily equipped (and we, having stayed in a number of nice VRBO homes have found that this is not always so). This was the first time we didn't have to go out to buy more toilet paper, for example, or bring extra towels! Kirstie prepares for your arrival in great detail and she is very responsive to your needs. Needless to say, we would highly recommend Rocky Shores and its lovely owner. Ben S. April 2018 This is one of the best vacation rental properties we have ever experienced. The location is beyond phenomenal. From the 4 aquarium passes, abundance of towels / supplies, and very thorough instructions, everything has been thought through. This is a truly special property, and it was an amazing place to gather a group of people for the week. Thanks so much!! Bill J. January, 2018 We had a wonderful experience. Kirstie's introductory tour was concise and thorough, and left us without follow-on questions all weekend. The presentation of towels and soaps was a hit, as was the birthday champagne in the fridge. My mother-in-law was touched. I did a lot of cooking every day, and every appliance was easy to find and worked well. I brought spices with me but forgot garlic powder, which, of course, was here. :-) My father, who will be turning 88 this summer, absolutely loved the view (as did we all). He likes to pontificate and rank his experiences in life, and he put your view at the very top of his list, next to a view down the Rhone River Valley from a friend's house that he stayed in 35 years ago. We all visited the aquarium together on Thursday and had a wonderful time. My parents visited it a second time on Saturday, while our boys went to the Denis the Menace park for a spell and then rented a paddle boat -- a bit hit! And of course, the fire place was lovely. A 100% gas fire place does not hold a candle to the natural wood fire we enjoyed in the evening. Thank you, Kirstie, for sharing your home with us. We will be back! Linda November 2017 Special. This home is special. I wanted to find something grand for our family to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday! And boy did I find it. WOW. From the moment we drove up, we knew we were in store for greatness. It was amazing. Kirstie met us warmheartedly at the door, and took us on the tour of her home. Showed us how to work everything, etc. We so appreciated that. It was really like we were staying at a friend's house. The kids all arrived and were in Heaven. The rooms. (Everyone had their own bathroom btw) The VIEWS!!!! You are literally at the edge of the world! The sunsets here top Hawaii! We played foosball, chess, and ping pong. But pinball was the fave! There was even a tree house in the garage! The absolute privacy . . . you are only one of two houses RIGHT on the shore! Roaring fire every night . . . . . Premium golf courses are a stones throw away. As is all of the beauty that Pacific Grove, and Monterey have to offer. We rarely left the house though, as the ocean was our back yard! Seriously, we ate in every night! Could NOT miss that amazing sunset! Can't wait to go back. This is our new forever getaway! Our home away from home. Sara November 2017 The best beach house I’ve stayed in! Not only are the views amazing, but the access to trails, golf and tide pools is so close by, there is no driving required. A true vacation in every sense of the word, relaxation and large enough to bring a group and still have quiet spaces for reading and such. Perfect for families and friends; kids and adults alike! Joni October 2017 Our group of nine friends and family spent six glorious days in this incredible home. I can't say enough about this home — the views, the location and Kirstie! Wow, she has thought of everything, every comfort imaginable is here for you to enjoy. Build a fire in the fireplace and open the patio doors to listen to the crashing waves... magnificent!! Six of us, not so young beginners took Hannah's yoga class and it was wonderful. Set in the home's private yoga studio, complete with another fireplace, this class hit all the right notes.. Hannah was knowledgeable and walked us through each pose gently and was attentive to each individual.... wonderful. Hannah is a great teacher; we had a very relaxing time! Several guests in our party enjoyed the services of the on-site massage therapist, Perrine. Everyone loved their massage...we even had one person who had never had a massage in his almost 65 years! He can't wait for his next one. One guest is a massage therapist herself and rated Perrine as an exceptional therapist. Everyone agreed that Perrine is awesome! I highly recommend this home...six stars! Beth September, 2017 We had a wonderful time. The location is amazing! You can see and hear the ocean from every room. We saw pelicans, otters and even whales! You feel like you have your own private, rocky seashore, even though there are public paths to the beach on either side of the property. We're already plotting our next trip! Gordon
Sharon August 2017 It’s almost impossible to describe the beauty of the view from this lovely home. There are many large windows overlooking the ice plant flowing down to the rocky shore. The ocean is so close you can hear the waves tumbling over the majestic rock outcroppings. And there are seals and otters to add occasional fun and entertainment. This is a beautiful, ever-changing view that never grows old. The house blends into the landscape as if it were born there. It’s cozy, comfortable and felt very inviting to all our family members, from age seventy-six to age five. There were twelve of us with plenty of room for all. The spacious layout lends itself well to that many people with no sense of crowding or lack of privacy. The beds are very comfortable and inviting with attractive quilts and bedspreads. The bathrooms are spotless, the towels fresh and fluffy. The kitchen provides you with absolutely everything you would ever need and it’s so well-organized you feel as if everything is at your fingertips. And, as for Kirstie herself, there aren’t enough nice words to describe this efficient lady who runs a wonderful establishment, makes herself available if needed and genuinely cares about her guests. Because of her attention to every detail she insures her guests have a carefree and enjoyable time. She is delightful and our family will definitely return for another visit. Lisa
August, 2017 An immaculately kept residence with breathtaking views and a sunset to die for! Kirstie goes through great lengths to make the stay a memorable one. Everything was just wonderful! Guests from "Hotlanta" GA.
June, 2017 Pictures do not do this home justice. The views of the ocean are beyond amazing - you are right there on the shore. Loved hearing the sound of the sea at night and oh my goodness when we were there it was a a full moon. The amenities that are offered are perfect for creating quality time for everyone in the family, pinball, ping pong, hot tub, tons of board games and even a big screen tv. The gourmet kitchen was well appointed and a delight to cook in. Her "bible" was so helpful for choosing restaurants, activities, and for answering questions about taking care of her home. Kirstie's home was elegant and yet so comfortable. Thanks for the memories. We will be back. Janet
April, 2017 The location at Kirstie's house is out of this world! Being able to sit in the living room and see sea otters, whales and the waves was mesmerizing. The house was great for our large group and we had all the amenities we needed. We had a great stay! John
March, 2017 Stunning location. You will not want to leave except to walk on the beach outside your front door. No trouble getting great take out orders from local restaurants and fresh seafood from Monterey Fish Company to grill. My elderly father never had to leave his window seat and the accessible bathroom on first floor a big plus. Great stay. Rose
December, 2016 Kirstie was so hospitable. the home was unforgettable. love the baskets with bathroom essentials for each room and guest. the view is breathtaking. only problem is when you have to leave and go back to reality. Our entire group loved our stay cant wait to go back. Maureen
October, 2016 Kirstie is an excellent host. We enjoyed the space and the location is amazing. It's accessible to so many things but has a secluded feeling. Kashelle
April, 2016 Kirstie was an excellent host! She was there to greet us when we arrived. Her tour was thorough and she made us feel very comfortable!! Her place is amazing!!!!! We arrived just before sunset and saw the most amazing views from the house!! We even saw whales! The house was well stocked, it was very spacious and beautiful. We brought our two kids and they had a blast!! There were great toys and they even have a secret fort in the garage! This isn't far the most amazing place we have ever stayed! We hope to be back soon! Balint
April 2016 Amazing home with magnificent views in a stunning location. Kirstie was a terrific host, very responsive, accommodating and professional. Highly recommend. Stephane
January, 2016 We absolutely loved our stay at Kristie's house, which we rented for our company's sales meeting. The set up of the house was perfect for our team, we used the huge dining/living room as a work space and the TV room for computer presentations. Of course the main feature of the house is its unique setting, with unobstructed views of the waves crashing 100 ft down below. The stormy weather provided us with a spectacular view during our work sessions, and we used the terrace and hiking path for short breaks. Kristie was great to work with. She was very clear in her instructions and accommodating to our schedule. We unanimously recommend Kristie's house, and hope to be back! Charles H.
October, 2016 This house was absolutely magnificent. Being familiar with the area, but returning for a week's visit with friends for the first time in years, the location was simply perfect as a launching point for activities at Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur, not to mention that the specific area at the northern tip of Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove is simply spectacular in its own right. There were a couple of days during our trip that we decided to just stay at the house, build a fire in the fireplace in the great room overlooking the ocean, and spend our time watching the waves, otters, seals, and sunsets. This house faces directly west; it is also directly on the water. You literally cannot get any closer to the Pacific! On top of that, the real estate that this house occupies is magnificent in its sweeping views from Carmel to Pacific Grove along the ocean. There are large rock formations at water's edge that add to the magic of ocean-viewing at this particular location. Also, the beautiful walking trails of Asilomar Beach are steps away. We also walked to the nearby Pt. Pinos lighthouse for a tour as well as the Monarch butterfly sanctuary just minutes away on foot. The house is very casual which fit our group perfectly. The owner, Kirstie, goes to great lengths to ensure a quality stay, as well she should given the expense involved, but she really does go the extra mile to make you feel right at home. The house is very spacious for 8 people (4 couples in our case) with plenty of kitchen space for cooking; all the utensils and pots and pans are right there for use along with an outdoor grill. There is a TV room with a large screen TV and tons of DVDs, BluRays and Laserdiscs; a pinball machine; a ping pong table; foosball; and high power binoculars for viewing the rafts of sea otters that inhabit the kelp forest just yards from the shore's edge. The sunsets were different every night and not to be missed! We planned our activities around making sure that we were home for the hour surrounding sunset. A great storm hit the area on our last full day, giving us an incredible display of the sea's fury with huge crashing waves and gigantic sea sprays. It was better than an IMAX movie! I have no legitimate complaints about the property. The other three couples in our group all echoed this sentiment. Maybe if the house could be turned 3 degrees clockwise so that it is EXACTLY facing west toward the sunsets over the water, but that's about it! Lol. July, 2015 I would like to keep this treasure a secret, but Kirstie (the owner) was so wonderful, and Perrine (the masseuse) should not be missed, so I will share. It was a family gathering. There were 15 eating and 11 (ages 8 mo to 70+) staying at it's largest. The house had something for each, well appointed & beautifully maintained. There are windows everywhere, the view is spectacular, the ocean sounds will sooth the tired beast. An example of who you will be dealing with..We asked Kirstie if there was a mixer, and the next day and brand new mixer was on our door step. If you go treat yourself to a massage from Perrine. I love massages and spas and I have never had a better one. The massage was professional and she located areas needing attention I was not aware of. We used the Aquarium tickets Kirstie provided, kayaked (at night and saw the bioluminesce), listened to the piper at Spanish Bay, wandered the trails, visited the lighthouse. It is something we will always remember. Thanks Kirstie, and please share our apprecation with Perrine. January, 2015 There is no way that a review can do this wonderful home justice, but I'll try: Perfect. It was Perfect. We rented Kirstie's house for a family gathering to celebrate my husband's birthday. The setting, the house - so much space, beautiful, well maintained, full of all sorts of comforts, conveniences and pleasures. Kirstie is a pleasure to deal with - professional and yet makes you feel like you're a friend coming for a visit. The view is beyond belief; we even had a full moon visible over the ocean. Each morning it was hard to decide whether to drink our coffee indoors with the perfect view, or just outside on the back patio, or on the adirondacks placed thoughtfully partway down the path to the shore. We slept 8 people, ages 13-70, and there was room to spare. We ate dinner in each evening so as not to miss the sunset. We watched otters, saw whales spouting, went tide pooling nearby, used Kirstie's Monterey Aquarium passes, and the true test - nobody ever turned on the TV! We'll be back to this bit of heaven on earth. June, 2014 There is nothing better than vacationing in and around the Monterey Peninsula. And we hit the jackpot with this beautiful home in Pacific Grove. Oceanfront with views like no other. Views of the crashing waves, otters and whale watching right from the living room. The weather was perfect. Every morning I would go for my walk along the trails, it was heaven. The home is an easy walk to the Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row. My husband played golf every morning at either Pacific Grove Muni or Spanish Bay both less then a hop, skip and a jump from the home. Kirstie was such a gracious host. We have found our perfect vacation home on the coast. See you next year! January, 2014 This home was truly magnificent and exquisite! Of the many vacation homes that I have been lucky enough to enjoy, this was the finest I’ve encountered by far. The accommodations and amenities were exactly as described (even better in some cases!) and the photos do the best they can in capturing the beauty of the amazing ocean views. The proximity of the ocean is breathtaking and we loved the constant serenade of the waves meeting the shoreline. This is a very well-appointed and well-maintained home. I celebrated a birthday with seven other girlfriends and we found everything we needed in the kitchen and the rest of the house. The home is very spacious, providing plenty of room when we gathered together and plenty of privacy when we wanted a little quiet time to ourselves. We had plans for a few meals out and an excursion or two, but did not go far at all. We only ventured out to walk the miles of footpaths to the right and left of the property. There was so much to enjoy at and around the house, that we didn’t even turn on the television for our mini movie marathon. Instead, we chose to stay ‘home’ for meals, read by the fire, sing around the piano, or try to get the highest score in pinball. Kirstie was a wonderful hostess: responsive and informative. She was even so thoughtful as to leave a happy birthday note with a bottle of champagne for me in the refrigerator! I would highly recommend this home. It is outstanding and extraordinary. August, 2013 Every summer for the last 23 years we have rented a large house for a vacation with 3 generations of our family. We just finished this summer's reunion in this house, and all agreed that it was one of the best we had stayed in. The house is comfortable, spotless, well maintained, well-stocked, and very attractive. The rooms do all have a view of the ocean. The location is wonderful. We've never before received such a thorough introduction to any house, and additional help was just a phone call away. So we highly recommend staying here! It was a real treat. One note about the layout may be worth mentioning: one of the bedrooms only has access to the rest of the house through its adjoining bedroom. July 2024 Our family stayed for a week at Rocky Shores in July. There were 9 of us. We had plenty of room for sleeping, a huge living/dining room with an incredible view, and a big kitchen. We cooked together every night and enjoyed the view every day. We also loved the hiking trails, and saw many deer on and near the property. The jacuzzi is very relaxing, and our daughter had her first massage from the masseuse that is available. We felt very lucky to experience a week together in such a beautiful place, and we would highly recommend it to others. We hope to go back again. Karen March 2021 We stayed here for a landmark birthday. It goes without saying that the view is everything. In addition to that, since it was COVID we mostly cooked and ate in. There isn’t one thing missing in this kitchen. The owners and caretakers are super responsive to any needs. We will be back. Melissa August 2021 Our stay at Rocky Shores exceeded our expectations from beginning to end. Upon arrival, our delightful hostess provided clear and complete information about the home and property. The kitchen is very well-appointed with all the appliances, dishes and utensils a chef could request. We enjoyed playing several of the homes board games; walking into Pacific Grove for coffee and driving into Monterey for sailing, viewing the aquarium and kayaking. Carmel, with its renowned shopping and world class golf, is less than 20 minutes away. We also drove a bit further to hike Point Lobos and take pictures at the Bixby Creek bridge. But the best part of our stay at Rocky Shores was enjoying the sounds and views of the Pacific Ocean from the hot tub and from nearly every room in the home. It is an amazing property, perched right next to the ocean and unlike any other in the area. Van Le January 2019 Waking up to the ocean sound and then actually seeing it with your own eyes without getting out of bed was lovely. Then actually going out to see the sun rise and set was even lovelier. All 16 of us enjoyed hanging around the house. The kids enjoyed the foosball, ping pong, and pinball machines. Kirstie was wonderful from beginning of the request to rent the house until we left. The house and Kirstie are gems. Saul June, 2019 We just returned from a 6-day stay at Kirstie’s place. There were 8 of us - 5 adults and 3 children under the age of 8 - and everyone had a fantastic time. The house is very spacious; the scenery is wonderful and Kirstie is a fantastic host. We rent places for vacations often and I can say unequivocally that this is the nicest house we’ve been in. A definite 5-star! Cheryl November, 2017 We have spent much time in Pacific Grove for the last several years. This was our first year to stay at Rocky Shores. What an amazing place. The home is absolutely lovely and completely furnished with everything you could possibly imagine you would need. It was the perfect place to gather with friends and family in total serenity. The setting is unbelievable. Having owned a property in Pacific Grove previously, we are very familiar with the area. We had admired this home from afar but you can’t imagine the tranquil, beautiful setting until you experience it firsthand. You have a very private, secluded piece of paradise. The views are unmatched by any location in PG. We enjoyed spectacular sunsets, beautiful private views of the expansive bay with visits from otters and harbor seals. It was a very special vacation. You also will not be disappointed with the attentiveness of Kirstie. She will greet you upon arrival, acquaint you with her home and address any questions you may have. She was absolutely wonderful to work with. Rocky Shores is an absolute gem! Kirsten April, 2017 Expect to be pampered by staying in this exceptional home, from its location, to furnishings, games and fort for the kids down to the details....you'll never tire of looking! Do not hesitate to be on the only true beachside rental in Pacific Grove! Pamela
January, 2017 Kirstie's home is absolutely lovely and very comfortable. Her communication is prompt and friendly. I'm usually ready to go home after any vacation, but this time I was really sad to leave. I'm thinking about making this a yearly tradition! Louis
November, 2016 The house was every bit as advertised and then some. Unbeatable location and views. Hostess was great, helpful and easy to communicate with. The whole experience was easy. Irene
July 2016 The house is awesome! The view unbelievable! Pictures do not do it justice. Soap, creams, cleaning items, even laundry detergent was provided. Kirstie was right there if we needed anything. By far the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. We would definitely stay again. Andrew
April, 2016 The property was in a great location. The house was clean and full of amenities. We cooked our own food, and found that they had almost everything we needed! We are already planning our trip back and hope that we have an even better vacation next year! There are a lot of rules in renting this property, but all of them were reasonable. Deborah
March, 2016 Kirstie's home is fabulous. Beautiful setting, views, access to the beach, secluded but yet close to 17-mile drive, Carmel, Monterey. This home has all the amenities..well-stocked kitchen with staples (loved the kitchen), comfortable beds, large living area...just home away from home..Kirstie made us feel so very welcome and ensured we had everything that we needed to make our stay comfortable and fun. We (5 couples) were all there for a wedding celebration. We could not have chosen a better place to stay. Amenities...big screen tv; music system, large, comfortable living room with a great fireplace (with firewood stocked), lovely greenhouse, hot tub overlooking ocean (we loved)....and I personally loved playing on her antique pinball machine! Each bedroom was beautifully set up with towels and toiletries...a great touch. Such a fun home and wonderful hostess! Thank you, Kirstie. We hope to stay again. Debra
December, 2015 We had a wonderful birthday celebration for my husband's 70th birthday at your beautiful house. Couldn't have been better for our party of 8. Comfortable, beautiful, close to everything... a home away from home. We will definitely be back, probably every year. Thank you Kirstie and Eli! Kate J.
November, 2016 We just got back from a wonderful girl's weekend at Kirstie's beautiful home. Everything you could want in a rental is at this home, there is not a better location in the area. All of us remarked over and over again about the views (pictures can't do them justice), and we are already trying to figure out when we can come back again. Thank you Kirstie for everything and hope to see you again soon!!! Recommended for: Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Romantic Getaway. Jana C.
October 2016 Second time we have rented this huge lovely home to gather our family together in a spectacular setting with recreation available for all ages. All the family enjoys the home being situated right on the ocean, taking walks and seeing the local sites. The home itself has a gigantic front/main room overlooking the Pacific, a super playroom for the grandkids with a pinball machine, costumes and board games, a movie theatre area with a huge TV screen and tons of DVDs, up to date bathrooms and a fully appointed kitchen. Every detail has been thought of...you will not be disappointed. Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Girls Getaway, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers. Dirk S.
July 2016 Had booked Inn at Spanish Bay for 3 nights when I saw this rental available and changed my plans. Very happy we did. I have family of 6 and could not of been happier. Kirstie was very helpful and thought of every detail. May go back with friends later next year for a guys golf trip. Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Families with Teenagers. June, 2016 After 50 years of marriage, we wanted a special place to spend a week with our family. This house was definitely that special place. The setting was breathtaking with the crashing waves and great views of the ocean. The house was big enough for our two sons, their wives plus six grandchildren ranging in age from 2-21. There was something for everyone—our two year old loved the player piano; our 21 year old loved the video room and pinball machine; all of them loved the tidal pools, the hiking, the hot tub. There was plenty of room for all and we had fun cooking in the well supplied kitchen. Kirstie did a great job explaining the house at the beginning but it was good she was nearby as there was lots to remember. Bottom line is that this was a perfect place to celebrate our 50th. We are thinking of another celebration there sooner than another 50 years. Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers. RX
May, 2016 Kirstie, is a very welcoming and responsive host. Thorough tour and introduction to the house. House location is fabulous right above the tidepools. Can hear crashing waves all night--very soothing. Furnishings are perfect--comfortable seating areas for all. Even bigscreen TV for those not enjoying the wonderful view and walking trails along the coast(right from driveway). Well supplied kitchen. Great views from all 4 upstair bedrooms and 2 downstair bedrooms for those unable to climb stairs. This was our 2nd stay here and hope to return again. July 2015 We have had our annual family vacations along the Coast from Santa Cruz to Pacific Grove for over a decade and this was definitely the absolute best place we have stayed. This year we celebrated our parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary and it was perfect. Kirstie is very responsive and after spending a few very thorough minutes with her as she got us all set up, we had a very relaxing stay. As our family has grown we have needed a larger place for everyone from 11 to 84 years old. Kirstie's place worked for everyone. It was private, quiet, spacious, secluded, plenty of room for all 12 of us and we enjoyed spending time together cooking (why leave?), playing cards, pinpall, ping pong, relaxing in the hot tub or lounging in the backyard (also known as the ocean). The completely private view of the ocean is amazing from multiple vantage points. Not sure what else can be said except thanks Kirstie for a great, great time. Sept. 2014 Staying at this lovely home was like a dream come true. There is no other home in the area that holds the magnificent views, the exceptional privacy and is a unique and beautiful place. We enjoyed the connection to nature right outside the windows and the evenings in the hot tub watching the sun set! Kirstie is always cresting new wonderful experiences for her guests. I can't wait to go back! Recommended for: Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Romantic Getaway. Lee June, 2014 WE love Pacific Grove. We have passed this home many times and would often wish we could stay in it. Well, our dream came true!! We spent our annual family vacation there and were SO pleased with everything. The hone is lovely and is so well supplied. The piano was such a nice extra. The views are out of this world !!!! Needless to say we all hated to leave. This home would definitely rank as one of our best. Kirstie is great...SO accomadating. How nice of her to return all the "forgotten" items. Her champagne welcome was appreciated. We all gave it a 5 Star rating !!! Recommended for: People with Disabilities, Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers. Bryan H.
March, 2014 Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The accommodations and amenities were exactly as described except for all of the nice unexpected touches that exceeded our expectations in so many ways. This is a very well-appointed and immaculately maintained home. All but 2 of the bedrooms have commanding ocean views with big windows (that open). The Master Bedroom is a special treat indeed. To complement the stunning beauty of this home, and the sound of the crashing waves behind it, its ambiance receives two more nice assists from the well-stocked wood-burning fireplace, and an awesome player-piano. There’s also a nice, large, clean hot tub facing the ocean. Even though the back side of the house is wide-open ... there is plenty of privacy. You’ll have to see it to understand it, but we felt completely alone and unbothered even though it was a very busy weekend in Pacific Grove. Finally, Kirstie is an excellent hostess -- very informative and responsive. This place is a jewel ! Can't wait to re-experience it ! Syl
September, 2013 Our stay at this lovely home included seven adults, two teens, and a 2 year old. We came from three different states to celebrate the memory of a husband and father who had died last year. We also celebrated an anniversary and a 17 yr old birthday and made current memories to remember a lifetime. Kirstie's home was perfect in every way. She greeted us and showed us around the first day. Warm touches of flowers and champagne were a sample of her great hospitality. Every bedroom upstairs, four of them, faced the ocean waves and the sound of surf lulled us to sleep and woke us up to new beauty every day. Seven days of paradise and we could have stayed longer- - hated to leave. The area abounds with things to do and see. Our group enjoys hiking so we did Big Sur, Pt. Lobos, the recreation trail that runs along the ocean from the house both right and left. Sunshine and big waves every day. Some went surfing at a nearby beach. Warm enough during the day for beachtime and cool at night and morning to cosy by the fire. One of our group run the trail half-marathon at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur. We also explored down to Julia Phieffer State Park where there is an awesome waterfall dropping into the ocean. Pt. Lobos is not to be missed!! Devil's Cauldron at sunset was beyound belief with waves crashing over our heads. Some of our group went a second day (worth the $10 entrance fee). Visited and enjoyed Carmel Beach, Monastery Bay Beach, Asilomar (Sunset) Beach, Lover's Point Beach, and Monterey Beach. Cooked some meals in as there is a grill available and we had hot tub and wine at sunset right out our front door. I would recommend Fishwife restaurant in Pacific Grove at Asilomar Beach. Also Peppers Mexican restaurant in downtown Pacific Grove. Driving into Spanish Bay resort for one sunset by firepits and hearing the bagpipes playing was a special treat, as well. Too much to include everything, but it was perfect. I recommend this house and I would definately stay there again Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers. |

July 2024 We have stayed four times at Rocky Shores with our multigenerational family of 12 (7 to 75 years old). Love the true “home” atmosphere that allows for “eating in“ home-cooked dinners. Kids enjoy being so close to the water, pin ball machine, videos, fort in garage. Young adults love the jacuzzi at night. So beautiful for the elders to enjoy morning coffee while watching waves crashing or fog rolling in… coming back for a fifth year in 2025. Thanks to Kirstie, our host! Karen October, 2023 We are an extended family that ranges in age from 4 to 85. The kitchen is stocked with everything you can think of for cooking meals for a large group. We enjoyed having a table that was long enough to seat all of us together. The beds were very comfortable and well appointed. During our stay, amongst us all, we: Explored the tide pools, golfed 18 holes at Spyglass, soaked in the hot tub under the stars, went to the Aquarium, shopped in Carmel, ate Thai food in Monterey, took long walks along the gorgeous coastline, took long naps, and painted the scenery. We also as a group went for cocktails at the Inn at Spanish Bay, at sunset, to hear the bagpiper. Everyone was delighted with the accommodations, and the location of Rocky Shores. Kirstie and Hannah were excellent hosts. We are so grateful for our family time at Rocky Shores. Linda January, 2019 This was the perfect house to celebrate my father’s birthday. There were 12 of us 2 to 86. Plenty of space. The 2 bedrooms and bathrooms on the main floor were perfect for the oldest among us. From the living room you could enjoy the ocean view and the crackling fireplace. Since it was January of course there was a storm, but I think we enjoyed the storm with the cozy fireplace and much as the boughts of sunshine. All ages had a good time. There was a bit of a problem with the refrigerator but Kirstie did everything possible to help. She supplied us with extra ice chest and stocked us up with ice. During the storm the lights flickered and she texted to make sure we knew where the emergency flashlights and lanterns were. She is very attentive without being intrusive. This was definitely the right choice for a multi generational family getaway. Farhad, Miriam, and the gang November 2017 A Piece of Paradise in Monterey Area We were celebrating my wife's 65th BD right after Thanksgiving with a couple of our grandchildren and my daughter & son-in-law. The location was a surprise to everyone. When we arrived and walked into the house, everyone, including my 5 year old grand daughter, said WOW! The view gets 10/10 The house gets 10/10 The cleanness and preparation for our arrival gets 10/10 My Wife is in electrical wheel chair and was able to move around at the first floor with gorgeous view and a sliding door so she could feel the ocean The kids were upstairs with a BILLION dollar view The owner, Kirstie is a unique lady. Kind, professional and genuinely wanted our stay to be perfect. So if you want peace, quiet, fantastic views, location near everything that the Monterey area offers you, this is the PERFECT place. Jeff March, 2017 The house is gorgeous with lots of fun surprises, such as hidden bedrooms and games (pinball, ping pong). We couldn't have asked fore more. Kirstie was delightful and highly responsive. Thanks! Daniel
December, 2016 Hard to imagine a more beautiful location in the Monterey Peninsula. This is one of only a handful of homes that exist on the ocean side of the Pacific Grove ocean-side roads. With miles of maintained trails one could walk all the way to Pebble Beach. We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wife's birthday as a surprise to her. Our three kids and their spouses/friends were with us and we didn't really leave the house. There are some pretty good restaurants in Pacific Grove but when you are at such a beautiful location there's really no reason to leave except to hike the dune/ocean trails. The kitchen is fantastic and you can easily seat 10 at the amazing dining room table. The great room looks out at the ocean and you'd think you were at an iMax theater watching the waves, the sea birds, the otters and the occasional whale. I didn't get a chance to meet Kirstie (my kids did) but she was exceptionally communicative and helpful. We'd return in a heartbeat! Phyllis
June 2016 We loved this house! First of all, the view is SPECTACULAR!!!! All of the rooms were extremely comfortable. There were baskets soap and fluffy white towels. Kirstie was most welcoming, and was available to answer any questions. The kitchen works really well for a large family. We are a three generational family, and there was plenty for all of us to do: games and a pinball machine in the house, and tide pools and walking/jogging paths along the beach. We will stay here again. Carolyn
April, 2016 Absolutely magical. Kirstie is an incredible host - great communication throughout the entire process, thorough (and really fun) tour of the house, baskets in each room with towels and toiletries. The house and property is absolutely amazing. Our family had a great stay and there is already talk of coming back soon! Adam
March 2016 gorgeous and unique ocean front view of protected seashore. attentive and thorough host. George
December, 2015 What a great home, one of only two on the water side of the road. Our group of 10 loved the location and Kirstie's home. Kirstie greeted us and took us through the home so we knew how to take advantage of the home's numerous features, from 2 Sonos sound systems to the hot tub. And the hot tub was immaculate. Great beds, great views of the Pacific, incredible sunsets and we also saw two whales! All in all a great place to stay. Kathleen L.
November, 2016 Our family of 12 had a wonderful time of relaxation and fun. The house is perfect for 6 couples and you could not ask for a better location. All the beds were very comfortable and each room had special touches just for Kirstie's guests. Our kids were in awe as they drove up to this amazing home and location. The views from the house, the sound of the ocean waves and the warm/comfortable atmosphere made for a perfect weekend. We will always remember this time of reunion we shared with our children and spouses in your amazing home. Thank you for being a blessing to us. September, 2016 This was a perfect spot for our office continuing education studies. the eight of us were able to learn while seeing and hearing the rolling surf. what a spectacular setting! There was nothing we could have wanted for.the home was fully appointed, right down to the baskets in each room with fluffy towels, and wonderful english soaps and lotions.such a nice touch.we would all like to be able to bring our families some day.Can not say enough about this wonderful home, thanks Kirstie for letting us share in your little piece of heaven! August 2016 This note is long overdue-life has been a whirlwind since we left your lovely home in Pacific Grove! We all want to thank you so much for our very special time in Pacific Grove. Your home is all that we hoped it would be, and we loved our time there. Our daughter's wedding on the beach in Carmel worked out perfectly, and the fog even cooperated that morning, and stayed away! Your home was fully appointed with everything we could need, and then some! We all loved having the ocean right out back, and could easily sit watching the surf forever! We hope to come back for another stay sometime. Thank you as well for the bottle of bubbly to help us celebrate such a happy occasion. Cheers, M.E.S. May 2016 Thank you, Kirstie! This was visit # 3 for us - another large family gathering to celebrate a birthday. As always, our stay in this comfortable - so spacious - perfectly furnished and appointed house on the ocean was heavenly. We took walks, ate great food (kitchen has everything you could need and then some) visited the Aquarium, but mostly just hung out and enjoyed each other and the sound and view of the ocean. Kirstie is somehow completely available, and yet gives you privacy all at the same time - a perfect host. We'll be back - we LOVE this place. April 2016 We had a wonderful stay in Kirstie's lovely home. Great care is evident in the many thoughtful touches that made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The property couldn't offer a better location, on the water and surrounded by a walking trail along the coast. The bedrooms are spread out within this large home, offering privacy for each guest. We look forward to staying here again. Recommended for: Age 55+, Families with Teenagers. Judy
March, 2015 Words cannot begin to describe the awesome weekend we spent at Kirstie's home. Four siblings rented this coastal gem in honor of our parent's 80 and 85th birthdays. We couldn't have picked a more perfect spot or weekend. We enjoyed the spectacular coastal view, including spouting whales, both from the spacious great room and the outdoor sitting area. We took advantage of the well stocked kitchen and ate all of our meals at "home". We played cards, had pinball tournaments, walked the ocean trail, treasured our family time. We didn't take advantage of several amenities - the grand piano, the hot tub, incredible music system, tv - we will save those for next time. Kirstie is a welcoming and gracious hostess. She gave us a thorough tour and made herself available should we have additional questions. Our family weekend was one of faith, fellowship and fun. August 2014 We just returned from this piece of heaven on the coast. We planned a family reunion with ages of participants from 2-86. Kirstie's house has something for all ages: very comfortable beds, games galore, a fort, movies, gorgeous views from anywhere in the house, a kitchen with everything, very comfortable couches, 4 bathrooms, a game room. We slept 11 adults and three kids very easily with ample room for all. I don't want to tell everything she has because there are many surprises awaiting you and too much to list. Just prepare yourselves for a home located on a private, rocky beach close to shopping, all the sights the Monterey area has to offer and view, views, views! Mom is 86 and loved sitting and watching the everchanging sights from the living room and also the beautiful master bedroom upstairs. You will not be disappointed and you will be asked "How did you find this place"? Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Age 55+, Families with Teenagers. Stan F.
April, 2014 Our stay with a large family group was perfect. This location is truly as beautiful as it looks. I wanted views and it does not get any better. The home was clean, maintained and well stocked for a group our size. The owner was very helpful. I highly recommend this property. Pamela H.
February, 2014 I can't imagine a more incredible place to hold memories of our son's wedding week. From the player piano, to the windows and doors that open with the Pacific Ocean right at our feet... it was perfect! Kirstie, your lovely home was a wonderful spot to retreat together and celebrate our son's wedding in Carmel. My parents, husband's mother, my brother, sister-in-law, and daughter could not have come together in a more special place. I looked over and saw my father and mother-in-law asleep to the sound of the waves and piano in the living room. What a special gift your home was to our family. Everyone loved it! Our son stayed one night with his best man and gave us a quiet special time together before the wedding. Honestly, I could not have imagined a more perfect home! Please... hold us a spot for next year. Thank you! Recommended for: Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers. Organic Team
Sept. 2013 Your place is just stunning. We loved it and really felt ‘at home’. I loved the added touches you have all around that make it so nice. The drawing of you in the master bathroom, the framed dollhouse miniature…..with lites! The pillows in the yard, the planter on the cushion in the living room, the array of home like dishes and utensils……I could go on and on. I saw some of my personal favorite store in your home, Pier One. You even have the same chairs I have at my kitchen table! We usually do Team Builds that are full of activity and everyone goes home pretty burnt out. This was such a nice relaxing time for us and my team particularly loved the garage and all the offerings they found there. We all really relaxed and had no pressure for a couple of days. It was so nice. Of course, for us city folk, the beach is a joy and the walking paths so serene. January, 2013 Our group of 8 friends gathered to celebrate one of our birthdays. The entire weekend was sheer perfection! Kirstie did a fabulous job of making us feel welcome and pampering us. Every bed had a lovely basket filled with fresh towels, paper goods and toiletries. There was even a bottle of champagne in the fridge for our friend's birthday! The sound of the surf was present in nearly every room. Couple that with the pleasant melodies from the player piano and it was pure heaven! The home comfortably accommodated all of us with the four full bathrooms. We got lucky and saw dozens of whales and dolphins from our comfy perch in the backyard. Amazing sunsets and the hot tub overlooking the ocean made for a truly romantic weekend. Can't wait to return!!
